How to Create an...Orc/Lizardmen Watchtower (Page 2)

The ladder is next to build. I used leaf stems for the legs of the ladder. If you don't have leaf stems, you can cut a popsicle stick in half lengthwise (cutting off the rounded top and bottom) to give the look of scrap wood.
The rungs of the ladder were built by cutting sections of popsicle sticks and splitting them unevenly down the middle with wire cutters. By allowing them to split in different ways, it achieves a more realistic look, especially if this watchtower is supposed to be built by lizardmen or orcs.
» Crumpling up a piece of paper produces a leathery, cloth-like look.
Finally, the roof is the last piece we need to build. I wanted a natural, weathered look for the roof, but was struggling to find a suitable material.
I finally found inspiration, and crumpled up a regular piece of printer paper until it had a leathery feel.
» I tore a circular shape out of the paper and painted it red.
After smoothing the paper back out, I traced an appropriately sized circle to form a conical roof (I made a template from a paper towel to test out different sizes and then chose the size I liked best to trace onto the crumpled paper).
I chose to tear the shape out careful with my hands rather than cutting it because I wanted a realistic, rough edge rather than a smooth, cut edge.
